Spring 2023 Training Classes
WHEN: Technician April 25 – June 9, 2023, on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:00am – 12:30pm
General: April 24-June 8, 2023, on Mondays and Thursdays from 9:00am-12:30pm
WHERE: James City-Bruton Fire Station (multipurpose room): 3135 Forge Rd, Toano, VA. 23168
LICENSE EXAM (open to all): Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. James City-Bruton Fire Station

The class is free. However, there is an administrative fee of $15.00 for the license examination. After the exam the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) charges $35.00 to process new licenses. This fee must be sent by you to the FCC. It will not be collected by WAARC on exam day.

For the technician class you will need a copy of the Fifth Edition of the ARRL Ham Radio License Manual (HRLM). For the General class you will need a copy of the Ninth Edition of the ARRL General Class License Manual. You can obtain it from Wally WA3RWP at the discounted price of $26.25 or obtain it on your own directly from the ARRL at the link below for $32.95 plus tax and shipping. You can also obtain the manual from Amazon or other sources. Just make sure it’s the Fifth Edition. If purchased from me no payment is due until you receive your manual on the first day of class.

Although not required, some students also purchase the Eighth Edition of the ARRL Tech Q&A Manual. This manual provides more in-depth explanations of the questions used in the written examination. You can obtain this manual from Wally WA3RWP at the discounted price of $15.85 or obtain it on your own from the ARRL, Amazon, etc. It’s $19.95 plus tax and shipping from the ARRL at this link:
