KB4ZIN Award Presented at Annual Dinner

WAARC honored the 2026 recipient of the KB4ZIN Award at the Annual Dinner on January 17. The award was created in honor of Jim Bailey, who passed away in 2017. Jim’s most notable contribution to amateur radio is the three repeaters in the Williamsburg area.

This year’s recipient of the KB4ZIN Award is Dan Ewart, WG4F. Dan is the club’s resident Logbook of the World expert, and is always available to assist anyone that would like to get set up to use it for confirming QSOs. He also supports many of the community support events, such as the Williamsburg Half Marathon and the annual Triathlon. Frequently he operates mobile from a bicycle helping keep track of participants toward the back of the pack. Dan is also the club’s unofficial photographer, helping to chronicle the club’s activities and special events.

Dan was presented with a plaque that lists all of the honorees of the KB4ZIN Award, as well as a trophy with a microphone. The plaque will stay with Dan for one year, until it is returned for presentation to the next honoree. The trophy is Dan’s to keep.

Many thanks go out to the KB4ZIN Award Committee who read through the nominations and chose this year’s recipient. This year’s committee members are Donna KO4GLO, Scott KE4WMF, Andrea N8VBN, Jerome K8LF, Kenzie KO4GLN, and Robert N1PAX.
