WAARC offers amateur licensing classes periodically throughout the year. Detailed information about current class offerings can be found below.
April 2022 Technician and General Classes
The Williamsburg Area Amateur Radio Club (WAARC) will be offering a class for the entry level Amateur Radio license, known as the Technician Class and the mid-level license, known as the General Class. The classes are free. However, there is a $15.00 processing fee for the written exam. Also, please see below for what you will need for the class. (The FCC will require a fee of $35.00 for a new license starting April 19, 2022. This does not apply for current license upgrades. The FCC will collect it via an online process, not at the local test session.)
The Technician classes will be held on Tuesdays and Fridays, from 9am-12:30pm April 19 – June 3, and the General classes will be held on Mondays and Thursdays from 9am-12:30pm April 18 – June 2.
These classes will be held at the James City-Bruton Fire Station (Multipurpose room), 3135 Forge Rd, Toano, VA. 23168. If you would like to participate in either of these licensing classes, please email your response to HamRadioClass@yahoo.com, telling us which class is of interest to you, with your name, email address, phone number, and Call Sign (if general class selected).
What you need for the class
For the Technician class you will need a copy of the Fourth Edition of the ARRL Ham Radio License Manual. For the General class you will need a copy of the Ninth Edition of the ARRL General Class License Manual. The manuals are approximately $32.95 plus tax, plus shipping and handling from the ARRL. Amazon is currently also offering the manuals. Please make sure you get the edition listed above. Any other edition will be outdated and not appropriate for class. You can use the links below to purchase the license manuals. You can also purchase your manual from the class coordinator (email above address by April 6) for a discounted price of $26.20 cash on the first day of the class.
